Technology Acceptable Use Policy - Elementary

Belief Statement: Technology and computers are for everyone to use. Concord Road teachers will teach all students to use technology in a positive and productive manner. The school encourages acceptable uses of technology, that support curriculum in a variety of locations both in and out of the classroom.

Guidelines:

  • Students will receive instruction in the responsible use of the school's technology by reading this document and through instruction from their teachers about acceptable uses of technology.
Students are responsible for their actions while using technology in the school.

Student Expectations:

  • Always use appropriate behavior when using school technology. The use of offensive language, sending or viewing unacceptable or adult materials, and illegal activities are strictly forbidden.
  • Notify an adult immediately if you see things on the computer that you feel are bad, inappropriate and / or illegal.
  • All information obtained from the internet is protected by copyright. You should write down all your sources of information.
  • User logins are private property. Permission to access them can come only from their owner. If accessing another individuals account, you are violating the AUP agreement. It is the decision of the principal to determine the use of the technology lab for that violator.
  • Revealing on the internet your home address, telephone number or last name, or those of your fellow students, is dangerous, and must be avoided.
  • When using a school computer, always keep your disk space size to a minimum. To conserve, or not waste paper and toner, only print materials that are relevant to your assigned class work. The school reserves the right to determine what is and is not relevant.
  • You may not download your software onto any school computer/ peripheral or using the school's network resources.
  • Always let another student use a computer if he or she needs it for class work and you are using it for games or something unrelated to school tasks.
  • Student e-mail use is limited to teacher-directed projects - there is no personal e-mail use at school.
  • Do not engage in any activities that will hurt school equipment or network systems. You are responsible to pay for repairs or replacement of equipment you damage as well as for time incurred by staff in repairing damage to systems.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that software you use at home is compatible with the school's approved software list. The school does not assume responsibility for translating computer files generated at home into formats usable at school.
  • Internet access is an important component of research projects. Students will follow all posted policies and teacher directions and take responsibility for their behavior.
  • Having food or drinks in Technology Lab, the Library Media Center or near classroom computers is not permitted.
